Luxury Hotel Offer of the Week – Hotel Gansevoort, NYC

    Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Yes, along with several other changes you may have noticed, the Special Offer of the Week is now the Luxury Hotel Offer of the Week. It kind of sums it up a tad more efficiently. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure that if you do a search in the categories to the right, you’ll find all of the previous “special offers” along with the current ones…

Yesterday we told you about the Tribeca Film Festival and its fabulous child-friendly block party and films, so it only seemed right that today we would point you to a NYC hotel. While we admit that it’s unlikely that they have any rooms available for next weekend, the package is still worth pointing out, as NYC is a hot child-friendly destination any time of the year.

Hotel Gansevoort in NYC’s Meatpacking District – a former no man’s land that has recently experienced a boom in cuisine, couture, and other things cool – is offering a Honey We’re Stuck With the Kids package. What’s extra special about this package is that it doesn’t just welcome the younger ones with special amenities, but it offers some alone time for the parental units. How great (and rare) is that?

    The details:

    • Parents’ Night Out – meaning a licensed and bonded babysitter for four hours while you enjoy guaranteed reservations at one of the hot new restaurants in the Meatpacking District: ONO, Vento, One Little West 12th or 5 Ninth (48 hour notice required)
    • Milk and homemade chocolate chip cookies delivered daily
    • Oversized bucket of candy treats
    • Daily use of board games that include Battleship, Jenga, Sorry, Clue, Candyland and Operation
    • Unlimited use of in-room video games
    • A complimentary movie daily
    • Full continental breakfast daily at ONO (which is in the hotel)
    • A complimentary stuffed animal: Gladys the Gansevoort Goose

Another bonus: the hotel has a rooftop pool, which might be surrounded by all the “we-are-so-cool-and-fabulous” people, but we say troop up there with your brood anyhow. Hey, you paid for the privilege too.

Villa Marinasmir, Morocco - luxury villa rental

Unlike many Moroccan villa rentals, this villa doesn’t place you in the souk in a riad in Marrakech, but rather right on the Mediterranean shore, with a white sandy beach accessed directly from the villa’s terrace.

For large groups, this villa is exceptional – Villa Marinasmir sleeps 18 guests. The main building includes 9 ensuite double rooms including the first-floor air-conditioned master suite. A separate pavilion hosts 2 additional ensuite double rooms and enjoys direct access to the lovely garden.

Villa Marinasmir is comfortable and casual, with white marble exterior and interior and an infinity pool that lend to its minimalist style. An outdoor terrace embraces the pool on either side, and each is covered by Moroccan-style domes that lend shade for relaxing. One side of the terrace is the dining area, while the other side’s comfortable sofas lend themselves to lounging and napping. There are also teak sundecks around the pool, and direct access to the beach.

The villa offers daily maid service and as with all of our villa posts, is child-friendly.

    Tribeca Film Festival with Kids

    Children Playing Sign

If you thought the Tribeca Film Festival was just for artsy adults with no parental obligations, think again – the whole family can present itself on Saturday May 5 to Greenwich Street in NYC, where an all-day block party will be going on. Some noted restaurants will be sampling outdoors – a great way to taste-test some of the best food NYC has to offer. In addition, there’ll be games, arts and crafts, song and dance – in short, a block party NYC style. But lest you think that the films themselves are off-limits, think again – there are several family-friendly films on the itinerary. Check the festival’s website for times and appropriate ages.
