Mexico Summer Getaways
Wednesday, May 9, 2007
Okay, Cinco de Mayo has come and gone, but reasons to visit Mexico remain, not the least of which is Mexico Boutique Hotels’ promotion of family-friendly activities for the summer. We don’t see any special rates in place as yet, but the fact that they’re making the effort to promote their child-friendly activities is, to us, a good thing.
Never heard of Mexico Boutique Hotels? The organization is the Mexican version of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, somewhat, except all of the hotels are – you guessed it – in Mexico. The purpose is really to help smaller hotels band together to market themselves in ways they might otherwise be unable to afford, but the bonus for you is one place where you’ll find excellent service – a promise which is tested by the MBH’s surprise inspectors.
Las Alamandas is a member hotel about 2 1/2 hours south of Puerto Vallarta, and with only 14 accommodations that are suites or villas, it’s not the sort of place most people would consider as being child-friendly. Yet a new Kids’ Club has been built, with kidsitters and bilingual babysitters to allow parents some time to savor the lush and relaxing surroundings.

Other MBH hotels have stepped up to the plate in a variety of ways: a cooking class for kids and their parents at Hacienda los Laureles in Oaxaca, or horseback riding at Hacienda Sepulveda in the state of Jalisco. Since most of these activities or new offerings aren’t on the websites – and since not all 44 member hotels do accept children - check with your travel agent or call the Mexico Boutique Hotels office at 800.728.9098 to confirm what properties and activities are available for your family vacation.
