Acqualina, a Rosewood resort in Sunny Isles Beach, is offering a package that includes admission to Art Basel Miami Beach, happening this year from December 6 to 9. Art aficionados know that this event is the sister event to Art Basel Switzerland, the largest art show in the world, and the show in Florida is nothing to sniff at. Combining special exhibitions, parties and crossover events in architecture, music, film and design, Art Basel brings a nice dose of the arts to already hip but sometimes vapid Miami Beach.

Acqualina is not in Miami Beach, but approximately 20 minutes north in Sunny Isles Beach. When traveling with the kids, though, you’ll appreciate the ability to be a bit removed from the scene farther south. The intimate resort, which is right on the beach, offers 54 rooms and 43 suites, all fitted with private terraces and flat-screens. Some accommodations include jacuzzis, and most of the one- and two-bedroom suites boast gourmet kitchens with granite countertops and top of the line appliances.

While you’re checking out the canvases at Art Basel, the offspring can chill out at Acquamarine, the hotel’s activity program for 3- to 12-year olds that’s thematically designed around the sea. Some things kids might learn: how waves are formed, discover what goes into being a lifeguard, and the importance of coral reefs. Kids can be enrolled half-day or full-day. Other quirky activities for kids include Full Moon Dinners on full moon evenings, and Kids’ Night Out every Saturday, which includes dinner, games and a movie on-site from 7 to 10:30.

All this kiddie pampering gives you ample opportunity to explore Art Basel, although it might be hard to tear yourself away from Acqualina’s spa. Or the beach club. Or the adults-only pool (don’t worry, there’s a family-friendly pool too). But tear yourself away you should; it’s an excellent time to explore Miami and see more than the club scene that it’s famous for.
