There’s More to Orlando than Disney

And thank God for that. While we will someday make the required pilgrimage to see the mouse, we won’t be posting about it here unless the lodging satisfies the luxury requirement of this blog. However, whenever that day arrives – and trust us, exciting though Disney may be we are dreading the lines and the overtired kid drama – it would be great to have a guide that points us to the non-Disney offering Orlando’s got in store…

National Geographic Traveler to the rescue! They continue their series on seeing cities for free with Orlando, pointing out the fun and sometimes off-the-beaten-track things that folks can take advantage of. As usual, the list includes a special section for families; as usual, the rest of the list is also worth a gander, as much of it can be family-friendly too. There’s much focus on museums and parks, but the quiet might well be appreciated when alternated with noisy theme-park action. And Disney needn’t feel left out – their reach extends even to this list, with spots that are Disney-owned but outside the usual arenas, like the Downtown Disney Marketplace, which includes events, boutique shopping and a variety of spots to whet the palate.
