    We Need A Vacation!

    Wednesday, May 7, 2008

    Who’da thunk it?

Yes, sorting through all the options out there can be exhausting. (Not to mention that we have to do it during the down time, which doesn’t really exist when you have a 4-year old and a 10-month old…)

In any case, we are trying to figure out where we’ll go next. You know us – we love a beach. It’s easy with tots and it’s relaxing, which is precisely what we need right now.

    Puerto Rico?

    Cayman Islands?

Thus far, those are our choices. We’re leaning towards Cayman, frankly.

    What say you?

Puerto Vallarta! Probably because that’s the only place I’ve ever been…

I absolutely LOVE the Cayman Islands. I’ve visited several times with and without my family and think seven mile beach is the perfect playground for kids. The water is warm, the sand is soft, and the island itself is very safe (and kid-friendly). Last time I was there (2006) a ton of new restaurants were opening up which we loved. Can’t wait to go back.

We say the Cayman Islands too. It is a great place to travel with the family! My husband and I took our daughter there when she was young, and now that she is old enough to travel on her own, she’s gone back twice (once with friends and once with us). We loved going to Boatswain’s Beach to check out the turtle farm, seeing the blue iguanas and staying in the peaceful Eastern End of Grand Cayman. Seven Mile Beach is also the perfect place to relax.

My parents went on a cruise years ago and one of their stops was the Cayman Islands. They brought back pictures that literally took my breath away. Every since then I have always wanted to go!

In case you didn’t know, I found your blog through DadGoneMad. I’ve posted a complete list of everyone who left their blog link on his Big Big Stars post a while back in a post of my own in April called Blog Rolling With My Homies over on my blog, so if you want to see it come on over and sit a spell. I don’t bite..…that hard anyway!

If you did know just overlook this and pretend I said something funny since my brain feels like mush from trying to comment on all 217 on the list because somebody had the bright idea to challenge me to it!!

      To DeeDee:
Thanks for the post – you know what, we did see your blog – got the link so went on over to check it out. Couldn’t think of anything remotely interesting to say that day – it was a “read” day, not a “comment” day (do you have those too, where you’re just lurking around?) But we WILL link to you either here or on another blog (still in development). So muchas gracias for the mention!

Jacki, you’re getting outvoted here! We went to PV in 2006, actually, and we have to say, we’re not dying to go back. It was okay. We WOULD go back just to visit the Four Seasons in Punta Mita, which we’ve heard is fabuloso. And there was a great restaurant in Bucerias, which is north of PV, that we’d go to again. But PV proper has gotten too touristy for us – we’d want to spread out.

We love Cayman. The last time we were there was JUST before getting pregnant with the dear daughter (2004), but we did love it. Not exactly brimming over with man-made sights to see, but we actually liked the bucolic calm feel. Grand Cayman reminds us of St. John in terms of the low-key relaxed feel. The restaurants are a tad better in GC, as well as the accommodation options.

What wins us over, though, with GC, is the fact that we know people there. In other words: BABYSITTING! :)
