Around the World in 5 Links

    Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Here are a few links we thought your savvy self might like to check out this Wednesday:

Luxist: Sandy Maple scoops a chic tote in the Handbag of the Day that’s big enough to function as a diaper bag or carry-on tote (although you might want to watch out for the suede interior…). And unlike a lot of diaper bags that claim not to look like diaper bags but really still do, this one doesn’t – because it’s not. But it could be…

Concierge - When you’re out and about, the words “I have to go now” from a quivering child can inspire fear in the most intrepid parent. It’s all the worse if you’re in unfamiliar territory. Check out these Amazing Bathrooms around the world and put them in your list of cool – and clean – potties.

USA Today – Over in Chicago (a city we seem to be talking about a lot recently), the Fairmont has come up with a novel program: design your own ice cream. Yum – something the whole family can sink its teeth into.

TechieDiva - We’re all for being hip parents, but if you prefer a discreet vibrating phone to loud ringtones, we’re with you. Problem is, you can’t always feel the damn thing going off. Find your solution here and never miss another call.

A Luxury Travel Blog – Rocco Forte Hotels has a 10th anniversary this year, and Paul Johnson helps celebrate by offering up quirky facts about the brand’s luxury properties. Learn which one hosted J.K. Rowling as she finished the final Harry Potter book; if Stephen King’s your cup of tea, he wrote Misery while staying at a Rocco Forte hotel too. Find these factoids and other trivia to share with the family on your next visit.

Luxury Babymoon – The Conrad Chicago

    Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

We’re not sure if you feel like lining Paris Hilton’s pockets any further, but the Conrad Chicago’s package for expecting parents, The Stork, has just enough to make you feel pampered while leaving you enough time (and money) to spend elsewhere on Magnificent Mile. This one is not big on the Daddy amenities, which we’d prefer, but you’ll perfectly situated to shop for something special for the non-pregnant half.

Memorial Day Travel for the Procrastinator

    Friday, May 4th, 2007

Trying to make last minute Memorial Day plans? Good – then it’s not just us. We kept thinking “Gee, we should do something for Memorial Day”, but somehow the thought never translated into action. Now here it is, just 3 weekends away – and we have no plans. Which is, to us, absolutely unacceptable. So, as usual, we started looking to see what could possibly still be out there for people like us, and here’s a sampling of what we found:

    Hawaii
The LA Times recommends trips to Oahu for Angelenos: needless to say, the beach is always a big draw for children. The Sheraton Moana Surfrider and the Royal Hawaiian (also a Sheraton property) are offering reduced rates for Memorial Day weekend: $239 for a double that’s normally $380 at the Surfrider, and $269 for a double at the Royal Hawaiian, down from $445. The Keiki Aloha Program is available to guests of both hotels, where kids 5-12 are treated to a daily itinerary of fun. (While the Times recommends booking via Expedia to get deeper discounts for booking air and hotel together, we’ve found that this is not always the case. Do your homework to be sure of getting the best rates overall.)
