Although there are times when you just need the do-nothing-but-veg vacation, travel can be infinitely more interesting when we make deeper connections with our destinations. Claridge’s for the Holidays

For some reason we’ve always found London especially… Christmasey. Perhaps it’s the whole A Christmas Carol thing, we don’t know, but something about London during the holidays prompts us to dress up in all our finery and celebrate the season in a style befitting old English traditions.

In the Skies – Lord of the Rings

    Monday, June 11th, 2007

If you have an LOTR fanatic amongst your older kids (that’s Lord of the Rings for you non sci-fi people), or if you’re one yourself, and if you happen to be heading to England anytime soon, you might want to fly Virgin Atlantic – in Economy.

All passengers flying Economy into the UK will receive a precioussssss Lord of the Rings amenities package to herald the opening of the LOTR stage show in London.  The package includes a travel wallet with LOTR luggage tag, eyeshades, and oddly enough, socks customized with a quote from Gandalf (uh, he was the good wizard, if you didn’t know).  There’s also a gold pen and newly designed toothbrush and toothpaste.

The special kits will be available for 6 months, starting mid-June, on flights heading into Gatwick, Manchester and Heathrow.  Yes, they’re odd.  But we’re not here to judge – we’re just passing on the info.   For more of same, head to Virgin Atlantic.
